The holiday season is a popular time to travel for many Canadians who want to get away from the snow or enjoy the winter weather at a ski resort. Winter conditions merit extra precaution before leaving on your trip:

  • Prepare your home for your time away. Read our blog post for some detailed tips on keeping your home safe while you’re on vacation.
  • Have your vehicle serviced or inspected before a long road trip. Remember to top-up your windshield fluid and pack an emergency preparedness kit.
  • Check the weather forecast before you travel. Cancelled flights and road closures happen often during the winter, so make sure you know of any changes to your schedule so you can plan accordingly.
  • Don’t use a charging booth or public chargers to charge your smartphone–hackers could possibly steal your data. Portable power banks are your best option, and you’ll be able to charge your phone multiple times over.
  • Whether driving to the airport or to visit family, make sure you incorporate enough time into your plans for weather and road conditions. Don’t rush this holiday season, take your time and enjoy the drive!

Don’t forget to speak with your Broker if you are travelling for an extended period of time to ensure your coverage is valid during your time away. You may be required to have someone you trust to check your home periodically if you plan to be away for more than a few days.
